Letter of Support

As you may know, this past December I traveled to Haiti for two weeks on a medical mission. While there I lived in Cap-Haitien with a family, volunteered with the Haiti Hospital Appeal, and visited a hospital in Milot. I returned to the United States at 5 p.m. the day of the earthquake. My heart was deeply hurt by the earthquake news. Since that day, I have been eager to return to help the people that are so warm and welcoming.

Since that time, I completed my studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and have recently passed my nursing exam. I am now a Registered Nurse! My original plan was to find a job as a pediatric oncology nurse here in the United States. Because of the economy and the dire need in Haiti, my plan now is to travel to Haiti to aide in the continuing relief effort. I leave July 17th, 2010.

I will be living in Port au Prince volunteering with a group called the Materials Management Relief Corps (http://www.mmrc-us.org/). The group delivers supplies to hospitals and clinics in need, transfers patients, and helps with emergency management. As a volunteer I will need both spiritual and financial support. The financial support will be used to purchase a plane ticket for my return, food, nursing supplies, and sustainability items such as medicine and proper clothing for the climate. I am hoping to stay for several months, up to one year in Haiti. The financial support would be used over the course of my stay. The spiritual support will help keep me safe and strong in what I imagine will be long days and challenging conditions. I appreciate and thank you in advance for any financial and spiritual support you can offer.
